Talking lip liners!

In the past, I have always been very simple with my make-up and I would rarely wear bold lipsticks let alone lip liners. Over the past few years, I have become more comfortable with trying a bold lip rather than sticking to my usual routine of applying a soft nude when running out the house or even during a car journey!

I have recently developed an obsession with buying lip liners as I believe you can notice a huge difference when you have lip liner on as opposed to just lipstick/gloss. Lip liner adds more definition to your lips and generates a clean finish to the final look. YES you can use  lip liner to give the illusion of having fuller lips, however major overdrawn lips is not a very attractive look and I would suggest going down the route of fillers (from a safe and reliable clinic) if you are looking for an enhancement. I personally cannot live without my liners! They don’t take up much room in your make-up bag and can be worn without any lipstick colour on top.

As you have probably come across on YouTube and Instagram, everyone adapts to their own unique way of applying lip liner. Personally I don’t like having harsh lines so I blend the liner further in towards the centre of my lips creating a slight ombre effect. Afterwards, I apply the lipstick of my choice which really depends my mood or what I am wearing.

 [Formulating the canvas] *KEY STEPS*

  •  Ex-foliating and moisturising your lips before applying lip liner is vital as the lip pencil itself can be very dry and adding a matte lipstick afterwards can really create an unappealing look. For ex-foliation I use the bubblegum lip scrub by Lush which smells and tastes delicious! I personally use body shop lip butters to keep my lips moisturised throughout the day. EOS lip balms are great, but I personally feel as if it gives my lips an oily/greasy texture by the end of the day.
  • If you have olive skin tone like myself, sometimes lighter lip liners and lipstick colours are not as prominent on your own lips as they may be on someone else. That is why applying foundation to your lips with a beauty blender when blending the whole face can work as a good base colour for the lip liner/ lipstick which will enrich the tone.

And Voila! That is a perfect base for you to now apply your liner and lippy!

So now I am going to talk you guys through my favourite lip liners at the moment

MAC- Whirl

-          This is great for Olive skin tones as it is a dark rose-nude and works great with the the lipstick velvet teddy by Mac for an every day look!

MAC- Dervish

This colour is a pinkish-mauve type nude- Although this is much softer, I prefer this lip liner when I am going for a no makeup, makeup look.

       MAC- Staunchly Stylish

I recently purchased this liner during my stay in London. The colour is very similar to Dervish but slightly darker.

           Charlotte Tilbury – Savage Rose

Having tried many red lip liners and lipsticks in the past from Mac, Chanel and even drug store brands, I struggled to find the perfect rich red tone. Whilst shopping in London I came across the deepest and most vibrant red lip liner from Charlotte Tilbury! I loved it so much I bought them for my mum and sister. The packaging is also very stunning.

 Rimmel- Exaggerate

Believe it or not, my favourite lip liner which I probably wear the most is by Rimmel!
This is a brown-ish nude and can appear quite harsh but that is the reason I love it! When applied softly and blended well it can look very natural but you can also build upon it to create a more dramatic look especially when you are going for bronzey/tanned make up.

I hope this helped! Writing a post and describing a technique can be challenging compared to posting a video, so I have tried making it as simple as possible!
